BBD at the New Mexico Governor’s Conference for Economic Development

U.S. FDI and Site Selection in Focus at New Mexico Governor’s Conference for Economic Development

In September, Beyond Borders Development Group joined economic development leaders in Albuquerque to discuss how U.S. government policy is shaping foreign direct investment (FDI) and influencing site selection strategies nationwide.

Sharing Insights on Policy, FDI, and Investment Strategy

Hosted by the New Mexico Partnership, our Managing Director Joe Phillips presented Beyond Borders Development Group’s perspectives on tariffs, CFIUS and other policies that will affect the state’s potential in business attraction, particularly FDI.

The session brought together economic developers, policymakers, and private-sector leaders to discuss how shifting trade dynamics and new federal incentives are reshaping where and how companies invest in the U.S.

The FDI Context in Site Selection

Following this session, Joe was part of a panel of four experts to discuss on site selection, where we debated key factors that influence business location decisions, including infrastructure, workforce availability, incentives, and long-term growth potential. It was a dynamic conversation with fellow industry professionals, offering diverse perspectives on how companies evaluate and prioritize different regions for investment.

Following the panel, Joe engaged in a series of one-on-one meetings with community economic developers. These sessions provided insights into the unique strengths and opportunities within their respective regions, as well as the strategic efforts they are undertaking to attract and support business growth.
